Leftover Glass
I’d been wanting to try a diamond grid pattern piece for some time. I decided to use the glass that was left over from the stained glass window project.
02.
Playing with Colors
The layout of the colors is random, just what appealed to my eye. I try not to have the same color next to each other. I also decided against the darkest green glass, the dark row to the left of the paper.
03.
Glued
I tacked down each corner with GlasTac gel so the pieces wouldn’t move. I’m laying them out on a square I’ve drawn on ThinFire paper. I checked each row with a ruler as well.
04.
Ready to Load
This is the final design. Each piece of glass is 3/4″ square. The entire design is 8×8 inches, in case I want to slump it on a square dish mold.
06.
A Successful Tack Fuse
The pieces fused at the corners as hoped, and the entire piece is rigid enough to pick up by one corner.
08.
Ready to Slump
Instead of making a plate with a gentle curve, I’ve decided to go in the opposite direction. The piece is balanced on the Large Cone Bowl mold.

Final Result
I’d definitely like to do more of these diamond patterns. I’m particularly taken with the light weight of the final piece, and the way that light passes through the 3mm thick squares to the surface below them.
